About Andrew
Hi, I'm Andrew Simmerling - a personal trainer and online coach in Los Angeles. I work with a wide range of clients ranging from ultra-marathoners, to busy professionals, to former college athletes, to post-partum moms, to dads who want to regain their fitness.

My mission is to support and inspire my clients to live stronger, more confident, and fulfilling lives through physical fitness. Although I specialize with hybrid athletes; my ideal client is anyone, regardless of fitness level, who is committed to growth, open to learning, and ready to dedicate themselves to achieve their goals!

I believe we thrive when we embrace movement as a powerful tool for personal growth!

My Journey as a Trainer
My fitness career began coaching kids during my undergrad at FSU, then at Equinox in Chicago, where I developed my foundation as a personal trainer, working with clients of all backgrounds and fitness levels. This experience taught me the importance of individualized coaching and the value of building strong, trusting relationships with my clients.

Most recently, I had the privilege of working with Functional Bodybuilding and Marcus Filly, where I mastered the art of remote coaching and deepened my understanding of functional training principles. This chapter of my career profoundly shaped my coaching philosophy and approach.

Functional Bodybuilding’s unique training style – which balances aesthetics, movement, and optimal life functioning – has become a cornerstone of how I train clients today. I believe in honoring the dual goals of looking great and feeling strong, while also preparing your body to thrive in real life. Whether it’s lifting your kids, excelling at your job, or simply moving through your day with confidence and energy, my goal is to help you train in a way that supports both performance and longevity.

My Story
My fitness journey began in high school, where, as the "skinny kid," I discovered how transformative and empowering physical fitness could be in building self-confidence and unlocking potential. That foundation eventually led me from playing NJCAA collegiate baseball to becoming a fitness coach, trainer, and hybrid athlete. Fueled by my passion for athletics and a relentless drive to grow, I’ve dedicated myself to helping others lead more fulfilling lives through the power of movement.

After an 18-year baseball career that culminated as a collegiate-level pitcher in Florida, I shifted my focus to academics and earned a bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science from Florida State University. During my time at FSU, I became deeply involved in human performance research and community health initiatives, which further expanded my understanding of fitness and its impact on overall well-being.

Running and Hybrid Coaching
I discovered my passion for running in 2020 during the COVID-19 lockdowns when I celebrated my 30th birthday by completing my first-ever endurance event and a self-supported half marathon in Chicago. That milestone sparked a deep obsession with pushing my physical limits and striving for new personal records. Since then, I’ve taken on a variety of road and trail races, including marathons, 50Ks, and 50- and 100-mile ultramarathons. These experiences have given me a profound respect for the training, discipline, and mindset required to succeed in endurance events.

I specialize in hybrid training and coaching, a dynamic approach that blends strength training with endurance disciplines. I’ve had the privilege of coaching clients to prepare for a wide range of challenges, including Half-Ironmans, mountain bike races, marathons, 10K's, 100K trail races, Rim-to-Rim-to-Rim adventures, Spartan Races, Hyrox competitions, sub-3-hour marathons, multi-day Ultras and more. I’m just as passionate about guiding beginners through their first half marathons as I am about coaching clients to conquer epic ultra adventures. My approach is always personalized, tailoring each training plan to align with the unique goals and abilities of every individual I work with.
Education
I’m currently pursuing a Master’s in Clinical Psychology at Pepperdine University, where I’m gaining invaluable psycho-social insights that enhance my ability to build meaningful connections with clients and support their growth both physically and mentally. My goal is to provide transformative support by combining expertise in both the mental and physical domains, recognizing that true wellness comes from balancing both.
